New students can come along initially and
take part in training with casual loose
clothing such as a track suit or jogging suit
- football colours are strictly prohibited.
Although new students can train for a short
while in casual sportswear, students will be
expected to obtain a traditional white karate
Gi. Protective equipment is required for
sparring, gradings and competition. Again,
students would be expected to purchase their
own equipment in due course, although spare
equipment can be used initially.
Due to the fact that retailers of quality
martial arts equipment can be rather difficult
to find, the Club has scoured the market and
is now in a position to offer students high
quality uniforms and protective equipment at
near trade prices. Price lists can be obtained
from any of our Coaches. The Club has an
official supplier in Torra Scotia Sports who
are based in Bathgate, check out their details
on the Links page.
As explained in the welcome
message from our Chief Instructor, the Club
trains in a modern freestyle method of Karate.
We believe that given the times we live in, it
is essential that our students are equipped
with the ability to defend themselves in an
effective and practical way.
In order to best equip our students with an
effective well rounded defence system, our
students are of course trained in a modern
effective freestyle Karate, we also train in
Kickboxing, an extremely effective defence
method which also benefits students in areas
such as self-control, patience and discipline.
The Club also trains students in Ground
fighting techniques, which concentrate on
restraining would be aggressors and removing
potential danger. Children in particular, love
Kids can start attending Classes from the
age of 5, and the Club takes special care of
them, concentrating on building self esteem
and confidence. Encouraging fun in their
training and avoiding taking things too
seriously whilst teaching them the value of
discipline and self control. There is of
course no maximum age limit, as there is no
maximum age limit to being able to benefit
from martial arts.
Children with problems such as
ADD and ADHD can benefit even more from
training in martial arts than kids without
these problems. The Club welcomes all kids and
offers a place where self control is practiced
and encouraged amongst all students. See our
new Kids Section
for more info. on how martial arts training
can benefit kids.
